Test in Practical English Proficiency
Frequently Asked Questions
- How can I view sample copies of EIKEN tests?
- Test materials from all seven grades are available for download at stepeiken.org. Colleges, universities, and other agencies interested in using EIKEN as an admissions qualification may request a set of tests on CD-ROM by completing our online request form.
- Why aren't language schools included on the list of schools recognizing EIKEN?
- To be on the list, an institution must offer accredited degree programs and require an English-proficiency test score for international admissions. This includes most universities, colleges, community colleges, and TAFE (Technical and Further Education) institutes.
- Can my school become an EIKEN test site?
- The EIKEN First Stage (reading, writing, and listening) for Grades 2, Pre-2, 3, 4, and 5 can be administered at any institution that meets STEP security standards and can provide a minimum of 10 examinees. However, the Second Stage (speaking test) for all grades, and both stages for Grades 1 and Pre-1, are administered only at select locations. Please contact the EIKEN Study Abroad Information Center for more information.
- What other products does STEP offer?
- STEP recently teamed up with Cambridge ESOL to launch STEP BULATS, a jointly branded version of the popular BULATS business tests, tailored for the Japanese market. STEP also produces a four-level suite of institutional placement tests for schools and businesses, and Junior STEP, a series of listening tasks designed to encourage interest in English study among children.
