How to recognize EIKEN
Your institution can recognize EIKEN today by agreeing to accept EIKEN test results as fulfilling English-proficiency requirements for admissions, and by making this information available to prospective students through your website and in relevant publications.
You may download a recognition form here.
Note: Schools should determine appropriate cutoff levels according to their own academic requirements.
EIKEN is typically recognized as follows:
- Grade 1 Graduate and undergraduate degree programs
- Grade Pre-1 Undergraduate degree programs
- Grade 2 ESL programs for credit
Promote your school in Japan
As a free service, accredited institutions recognizing EIKEN are listed on the STEP and EIKEN Study Abroad Information Center websites, which average 70,000 hits daily. The web listing includes a brief profile in Japanese and a link to each school's home page. Selected institutions also appear in STEP publications, press releases, and advertisements.
Exchange partnerships
EIKEN recognition can help your institution establish exchange partnerships with schools in Japan. Many Japanese colleges and universities serve as EIKEN test sites, making it easier for students there to meet your entry requirements.
Did you know: Each year more than 30,000 Japanese high school students pass EIKEN Grade 2. By recognizing Grade 2 for admissions, your institution will be in a strategic position to recruit students for ESL programs.
